“The Voice” Contestant Performs Spot On Whitney Houston Classic

It’s hard to outdo an original song, especially if it’s Whitney Houston’s iconic and well-loved, “I Will Always Love You.” Originally written and performed by country legend Dolly Parton, it was Whitney who re-vamped the once folky-country tune and launched it into pop culture superstardom for the 1992 blockbuster hit, “The Bodyguard,” starring Whitney herself and Kevin Costner.

I (in the comfort of my own home) and others have attempted to sing this song and hit it out of the ballpark. It’s challenging, beautiful, soul-stirring, and gives everyone goosebumps – if the singer does the song justice! ANd let me tell you it ain’t easy!

There are some young hopefuls out there who aim not to outdo the original but be among the few who can compare. It’s 25-year-old Romy Monteiro’s energetic performance that had all four judges scrambling to slam down their buttons during the blind auditions for “The Voice — Holland.”

As the video starts, Romy jumps right into the middle of the song. We see the judges exchanging glances and comments as two of the four hit the button to turn around. Romy isn’t afraid to flex her skills and use the range of her powerful voice to show what she’s been gifted with. The audience roars, and one of the interested judges turns to take in the performance fully. He looks dumbfounded, completely taken aback by her stage presence and voice perfectly suited to match the song key.

Just as Romy’s reaching the crescendo of the chart-topping hit – that hard to reach part where the song really takes off – the singer sees it, grabs it and runs with it, her confidence never waning while she pushes her voice to the limit. The two remaining judges turn around and the crowd goes wild – so does her family behind the stage. Romy is remarkable! Not only does she hit this one out of the park, she’s got judges who want her! She’s got options and is definitely going places.

See Romy’s debut video below. No one will ever beat Whitney, but Romy comes really darn close. She won over the audience in this round.
