It’s not an easy feat to get on stage and sing a song that’s been critically acclaimed and loved by the masses. You can be preparing to sing for a group of people at a gathering, for your parents, teachers, and peers at a school talent show, or on stage in front of thousands of people at an audition, your prep has to be bang on. When you pick a classic or everyone’s most beloved song, you have to do it justice — no questions asked!
I think the pressure is a lot higher when you’re on the stage of “Britain’s Got Talent” and you’ve chosen to sing a popular song from “Les Miserables.” Not many people want to come close to a tune from the classic because the stakes are high. There are chances that you may mess up, and that there won’t be another chance to redeem yourself — you only get one shot at doing the song justice.
This boy band on the popular TV show had all the nerves and confidence to attempt “Stars” from the popular musical, and boy did they pull through with a powerful performance.
I’m sure the judges and audience were biting their nails in anticipation once the boys announced their song choice, but rest assured that there was nothing but love for the performance by the end of it.
Michael Auger, Jamie Lambert, Matthew Pagan and Thomas J. Redgrave, and Richard Hadfield only started their band, Collabro, a few months ago. When they first started out, they probably didn’t have a clue that they would soon find themselves on the “Britain’s Got Talent” stage, singing in front of thousands of people and four celebrity judges. What they did know what that they would have to nail each performance to get recognized as worthy to be a part of the industry, and this was true for their performance on the show as well.
They deliberated for weeks on their song choice, but at the end, “Stars” was the song for them and they were determined to get it right for their routine. The boy band knew that they were going to be performing in front of a tough crowd, but they were ready.
By the end of their performance, the judges were blown away and the audience was in tears. This act couldn’t have gone any better than it did, and I’m glad the boys stuck to their gut of performing this classic.
