Believe it or not, but every house has a smell. It’s not a bad thing to have a specific scent to your home, but you know what I mean, right? For example, the moment you walk into your parents’ home, you know that it just smells like it always has and everything is so familiar. I have an aunt who’s house always smells like a mix of coconut oil and lavender. It’s very fragrant, but anywhere else I smell those two things, I think of her immediately! These smells are the good ones, the ones which no one minds!
But, no one likes a stuffy smelling house, one that’s a mix of everything from wet dog to stinky shoes or last night’s leftovers still lingering in the air. And if it’s your home, you may not even notice it until someone walks in and points it out, but that’s embarrassing! Thankfully, it’s entirely avoidable too!
In this super short clip, your home can smell fabulous while you remain frugal. And the best part? It’s so easy and natural.
Before jumping into the quick DIY solution, let me tell you that it’s always great to have a natural air freshener as opposed to store bought ones with chemicals — natural ones last longer and there are no artificial scents and chemicals that we take in every time we breathe.
Now, getting back to the video, I wish I knew this trick earlier – actually, I wish I had thought this up myself! – because it’s so simple, it’ll have you saying, “That’s it…?” Yup. Really, that’s it. All you need is a clothespin and a few drops of your favorite essential oil (I love jasmine, patchouli, lavender or a blend). Dab a few drops onto the flat, smooth side of the pin. You can dab a few drops on both sides if you like.
Then secure the pin onto any type of vent. In the video, it’s demonstrated on a heat vent, but an air conditioning vent at home or in the car works great too! Depending on how big the room is and how much oil you use (remember, certain essential oil brands are higher quality than others, yielding a stronger more potent smell. It’s best to go with the better, more trustworthy brands that include the unadulterated, undiluted oil), the scent can last multiple days to a week before reapplication.
