I love singing in the car. Music just sounds so good with the volume turned up and the windows rolled down on a sunny day. Whether I’m alone stuck in traffic or with friends on a road trip or with my family on the way to the grocery store, there’s always time to belt out a few lines of a favorite song. Bonus points if you stop at a red light and your neighbor starts to giggle when you reach the chorus! And extra points if they join in too – hey, it’s happened to me before!
All jokes aside, I wish I had James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke job! Not only does he get to sing in the car all the time, but he gets to do it with big-time celebrities, singing their songs along with the voices that made them famous! Previous passengers include Adele, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, SIA, and now… the handsome, charming, witty and ever talented, Bruno Mars.
The hilariously fun video opens to James driving. He turns his head to thank the mysterious passenger for accompanying him to work during traffic. The camera pans to reveal none other than Bruno Mars in the flesh. And from the get-go, the two are on fire. James turns on the music, and both he and Bruno waste zero time jumping into song. The crowd goes wild as the familiar tune comes on, “24k Magic” and they rip into it, full on with arm movements and gestures.
In between song outbursts, the two guys have some pretty funny exchanges. James makes a comment about all the colors and silk Bruno is wearing. The star says James could pull it off if he wanted to, to which he replies, “If I wore that I’d look like I’d be having a breakdown.” This is just the beginning of a bit of back and forth between the two. James then whips out a few hats for Bruno to try on, because, well, the guy looks really good in hats. There’s a lavish top hat, a wide-brimmed robin blue James Brown hat, and a gold sequined cap, to name a few. They break into “Locked Out Of Heaven” wearing silly hats and serenading people out of the car window. It’s just a good time all around! Did I mention there’s an Elvis impression, too?
