A good musical artist is one who can keep re-inventing themselves without losing their essence. Josh Groban is one artist who has always evolved with the times. Not only a singer, but he’s also a songwriter, actor and record producer, pushing and expanding his boundaries as an artist.
And now, he’s got a brand new album that’s bringing excitement to his fans the world over! Aptly named “Bridges,” the album is a lot more personal than previous releases, touching upon topics that are close to Josh’s heart.
Josh told Newsweek, “I wanted an album that had an uplifting spirit, for my psyche and also for the psyche of listeners. I think we all need that.” With a focus on hope, love, and support, Josh’s album is a reflection of all the things he wants to see more of in this world. One of the songs is a well-loved classic that encapsulates the themes Josh is promoting.
He does a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and although the full music video hasn’t been released, out right now is a teaser clip of the video that’s to come. And so far, it’s beautiful. It opens to Josh sitting at the baby grand piano set against a brilliant, lit up blue background. He’s playing the keys, creating the music that leads into Josh’s escalating vocals which reach a crescendo that pulls the viewer in, immediately. It’s so engaging! You can’t help but fall right into the beauty and magnitude of the song.
Josh’s voice is further enhanced by a background choir giving the song depth, adding more layers, and building more power. He hits the high note then the music breaks. And it’s just him and his piano. His voice becomes toned down and softer, leading into a decrescendo and eventually, a slow and steady outro that leaves the listener with goosebumps and wanting to see the beginning. The full video can’t come out soon enough!
Josh’s version is simply stunning and haunting. And, if it’s any indication as to how the rest of his album will sound (are we seeing a theme here?), then fans are in for a treat! As for this rendition, the full video comes out soon so we can see him and hear the entire version.
