Everyone has a dream. And if you don’t, you actually really do, it’s just locked down deep inside, and it’s up to you to find it. Or, maybe you know you have a dream, but it’s been on the top shelf for a while, out of reach and dusty but not forgotten.
It’s important to remember your dreams, envision them in your mind’s eye, and go for them. Maybe your dream is small, but that doesn’t make it worth any less. It’s whatever sets your heart on fire that makes a dream worth pursuing!
Brendan Murray is 21-years-old from Galway, Ireland. He’s a plumber, and he’s got one big hairy dream, like a really gigantic dream. Ever since he was old enough to speak, the young man has been singing. He was able to memorize songs played on the radio and provided hours of entertainment for his family. Growing up, he became the frontman for a band he started with some of his friends named HomeTown.
Finally, he’s been able to sing his way onto to The X Factor UK in front of the likes of Simon Cowell, and One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson. Brendan has graced the stage when he’s asked, “Tell me why you think you should have one of those seats?” He goes on to describe that this is THE dream, that he’s very grateful to be here and that music is his passion. “Alright, blow us away,” says Louis. And the young man is off.
Choosing to sing REM’s “Everybody Hurts,” Brendan pulls out a voice that brings everyone to a standstill. Even the other contestants on the side of the stage are shaking in their boots, looking at him with wide eyes saying, “What a voice!” The crowd is stunned, the host is bewildered, and Brendan is just delivering the best he can. He almost sounds like Michael Jackson at points, building power and demonstrating vocal stamina that has everyone floored. This young man absolutely kills it.
Simon speaks first, “You’re in a completely different league to everybody we’ve seen so far, and you know what’s so charming about you? You don’t even know how good you are!” Louis takes the mic next and asks Brendan to come closer, “Just come here for a sec. Come here. I just want a quick word,” and what happens next changes this young man’s life. Let’s just say, dreams really do come true.
