I really love it when two unlikely, and seemingly different things come together to create a really good finished result. Like a peanut butter and banana sandwich (delicious!). Or, Freddie Mercury singing opera (stunning!), and yoga with goats (adorable!). Let’s not forget pineapple on pizza, either (sweet and salty awesomeness!).
And today, we have something even better. Who would have thought that combining the smooth, silky vocals of Michael Bublé with the raspy, southern drawl of Blake Shelton would work out to create a masterpiece of a song? Spoiler alert: it’s an excellent duet.
Separately, these two talented powerhouses are capable of touching millions of hearts, but when put together, their power exponentially becomes stronger and more far-reaching! It’s basic math, one incredible voice plus another incredible voice equals two talented voices that can pull off one heck of a show for a crowd that loved every second of it.
The video opens to Michael onstage in front of a BB grand piano and full orchestra. Michael and the pianist engage in a quick exchange, “Is he around?” “He’s really here!” “Let’s do it!” The pianist plays the familiar opening chords of Michael’s smash hit “Home” when, lo and behold, Blake appears from the side and walks on stage with a stool.
The moment he walks out, it’s easy to see that they’ve got good stage chemistry. They act like they’re friends, big smiles and little, subtle jokes between them make for a delightful performance. After all, they’re both seasoned professionals, no strangers to the limelight and throngs of adoring fans. Michael opens the bittersweet love song with his creamy voice that everyone knows and loves. He shoots Blake a funny little snarl before chuckling and touching his shoulder – Blake’s cue to jump in.
The country singer hits the notes adding his signature slow and pronounced husky tone – and it works so well! They both ooze charisma, jokingly flirting with each other at some of the more heartfelt lyrics, but never losing the essence and meaning of the song. Their smiles are big, and both are confident. Each man’s voice gives the ballad a well-rounded vocal tone, making their performance one for the books. An unlikely combination for sure, but does it work? As someone who loves salted caramel and chocolate dipped bacon, I say this is the musical equivalent of a fabulous meal!
