Batter Refuses To Give Bat To Dog Who Is Just Trying To Do Her Job

Dogs love to play fetch. They will gladly run to the far reaches of any park or field to locate the ball, doesn’t matter how high the grass or how cold the water! The unbridled joy they get from doing this is beyond adorable and makes for hours and hours of entertainment – and exercise for both dog and human!

It’s this instinctual skill to retrieve that makes dogs unique. And, in this case, put to work! Ever heard of a bat dog? Neither had I! If you do know, you’ve got a one up on me. If you don’t, a bat dog’s responsibility is to collect bats that get thrown around. Rather than the players picking them up, the pup does it, and it’s really adorable to watch!

Lou Gehrig was a first baseman who played his entire professional career in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees. He was awarded the American League Most Valuable Player Award twice and was a member of six world series champions. He’s kind of a big deal.

So, when a dog is named Miss Lou Lou Gehrig after the esteemed player himself, you immediately know that as far as dogs go, she’s kinda cool. Also, Miss Lou Lou Gehrig is no ordinary pup! She’s precious and feisty with a fabulous sense of humor who is the one and only K-9 Bat and Ball Dog for the Greensboro Grasshoppers minor league baseball team from North Carolina, USA.

In this video, we get a closer look at what the pup does to pass her time during the day. It’s a normal game and batter Jhonny Santos had just finished batting when he dropped the bat to his feet after a pitch. He picks it up immediately, but it was enough of a signal for Miss Lou Lou to come running out right on cue. She already saw the bat down, so even though Jhonny has it already tucked under his arm, Miss Lou Lou still goes to grab it! She nuzzles her snout to get closer and pull it from him, but he doesn’t let go. It might look like the eager pup is trying to steal it, but really, she’s just doing her job!
