In elementary school, basketball was one of my all-time favorite sports. I was okay at the sport in terms of shooting hoops, but man, was I not so great at dribbling and generally playing with other players. So whenever I meet someone who’s great at playing, you bet I can’t take my eyes off of them and their every move.
There’s one particular basketball player who I have been particularly enticed by lately, though. No, it’s not LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, or Michael Jordan. It’s 12-year-old Karolina Ramirez.
Karolina is young, no doubt, but she isn’t new to basketball. The tween has been playing since she was a wee child. While she hasn’t been alive that long, she’s been playing for over half her life, and on top of that, she seems to really know what she’s doing.
“It became apparent that Karolina was a talented player at 6 years old after playing and practicing basketball since she was 4,” Orlando Ramirez, Karolina’s father, said.
Not only can Karolina shoot hoops, dribble, and all that jazz, but she can perform a wide array of jaw-dropping stunts using basketballs. All it took was for me to watch one, short video of her performing these stunts, and I was completely floored!
In the video, the Stuart, Florida resident can be seen performing many different tricks. However, my favorite from her is when she’s on a pogo stick bouncing two basketballs at the same time. I’m already impressed, but then my mouth drops when I see a hoop enter the frame, and the young basketball player begins quickly passing the two balls through it like it’s no big deal. Just wow!
While Karolina may be naturally great at basketball, it also took a lot of hard work and effort to be able to do what she does today.
Her dad shared that she will spend hours practicing trick shots and that she’s always looking for a new challenge. I totally believe it! I doubt you could learn everything Karolina can do overnight.
In addition to performing trick shots on her own, Karolina loves playing competitively with other children her age. (Although, she’s definitely good enough to play with adults too!)
I think her talent will help open doors for her in the near future. Her father would agree.
“It helps her get closer to achieving her goals. Basketball is simply a platform that will open many paths in her life.”
