Artist Carves Intricate Sculpture Out Of A Single Tree Trunk

Hey buddy, that’s one odd looking wishbone. Or, is it a gigantic tree trunk? Wait, I think it’s a gigantic tree trunk. But, why is it behind red tape? It looks like it’s all old and rotting with all that funny texture going on. What’s the big deal? Huh? Come closer, you say? Sure… wait… HOLY COW. How can this even be possible!? Are my eyes seeing what I think they’re seeing?

So, apparently, this isn’t just a gigantic tree trunk laying around in a gallery. Nope, there’s a lot more going on over here. Artist Zheng Chunhui has created a piece called “Along The River During the Qingming Festival” and it seems as though he was on a mission to blow everyone’s mind. Do you not believe me? How can you not after taking just one look at the images below?! They sure look majestic.

Look at the photos and try to imagine the incredible skill and dedication required to create something like this. I think it’s safe to say that Zheng succeeded in his endeavor and with flying colors. I haven’t seen something like this, ever, and I don’t think many people are capable of such creativity, either. This sculpture is 40 meters long and so intricate. Some people think that it’s made out of numerous tree trunks put together. But, Zheng confirms that the sculpture is made out of a single trunk.

Nice tree, buddy… 40-feet long? Pretty impressive! You want me to look closer? Okay…

Um… WHAT!?

Okay, so it turns out this is a wood-carved sculpture. Made with a single tree trunk, it has been recognized as the world’s longest wood carving by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The sculpture contains over 550 individually carved people. Not to mention all the buildings and foliage. He’s literally built a little community in this piece of wood.

It’s a replica of the famous Chinese painting “Along The River During the Qingming Festival” created by artist Zhang Zeduan during the Song Dynasty.

Zheng made this mind-blowing artwork with so much passion and patience. It’s not a feat for everyone, that’s for sure. Do you know how long it took? The man worked on this project for four years! Kudos to you, sir.
