Everyone loves a good secret. When a friend, co-worker, family member or even a mere acquaintance says that they’ve got a juicy bit of gossip or they know something that you don’t know, we instinctively want to be in-the-loop, so we bend our ears and listen, intently.
But imagine if the biggest secret ever was kept hidden from everyone? In fact, you didn’t even know that mystery existed? That is what happened to Simon Marks who lives in the U.K.
Simon was leaving his home one afternoon, and as he reversed, he began to hear a crumbling noise under his front tire. He continued to reverse, but as the sound became more evident, he decided to get out and see what it was all about. Little did he know that this minor occurrence would turn out to be life-changing. For that reason, he took it upon himself to take a selfie stick and a camera in order to inspect what appeared to be a giant hole.
Unbelievably, two distinct rooms were found beneath his feet. Despite having been hidden for so long, the condition of these rooms was immaculate, with items still sitting in place; he found things such as glass bottles and vintage newspapers. “The previous owner must have known it was there. And when he built the house and put a garden in, he must have filled it in,” Simon exclaimed.
Now, Simon and his father are on a mission to clear out the shelter to preserve it, and hopefully learn more about its history and how it came into being. “It’s part of our history,” he said, “so it should be kept.”
