I’ve worked in customer service for years, and know how important it is to be readily available when a customer needs it. But with other responsibilities like restocking or leaving the counter to help others, you can’t always be in two places at once! I’ve also been a customer and know how tiresome it is when you’re stuck waiting for a salesperson to help you! Whichever side of the coin you find yourself on, this man needed help and decided to take matters into his own hands. Hopefully, the salesperson didn’t get into too much trouble and everyone had a good laugh.
Forrest Hunter, from Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, USA, got what he asked for when he went on a recent shopping trip to the local Walmart. This turn of events is really funny, but definitely takes a bit of mustered courage to pull off. I’m not sure I’d have the guts to do it myself! He must have been waiting around for a while!
Forrest was in the sporting goods section of Walmart with a friend when he got tired of waiting around for a salesperson to show up. He waited and waited and waited, and eventually, decided he had had enough! Leaning over the counter, Forrest helps himself to the intercom phone. He lifts up the receiver for the whole store to hear over the PA system, and says, “Customer needs assistance in sporting goods, please. I’m the customer.”
He says it in a low monotone voice, not looking to make a huge scene, but just enough to get someone over in a hurry to help him out!
This video has garnered over a million views, and has even been covered in Britain’s “The Daily Mail!” Forrest admits that shortly after his message, an awkward employee hurried over, asking if he needed help, to which Forrest replied, “How’d you know?” and bought his hunting license.
In addition, there were no repercussions for Forrest’s outspoken behavior, just a weird exchange with the employee after the fact! Maybe this story will be used for future training purposes? Surely, employees will look back and chuckle!
