We think it’s the big, expensive things in life we love the most, but in reality, it’s the little things: enjoying colorful sunsets, taking a hot shower, giving a friend a warm hug, eating chocolate cake after a long day of work, or even just hearing a loved one’s soothing voice. If we lost everything, I guarantee it would be the simple things you miss first or, at least, truly miss.
A Vancouver, Canada woman, Mara Soriano, had an experience where she had some expensive items and important documents stolen while she was in the process of moving. Out of all of these precious belongings, which included electronics, Mara wanted nothing more than to have her teddy bear back, which contained a voice recording of mother who passed away from cancer in 2019. Again, it’s the little things you miss the most, but sometimes those little things really are big things.
Getting to hear her mother’s voice again was all she wanted.
“At hospice her voice was different. Much softer. Not the mom I grew up with. That bear is the last memory I have of her speaking in her normal voice,” Mara explained.
In the voice recording, Mara’s mother said, “I love you. I’m proud of you. I’ll always be with you.” All three of those sentences are incredibly meaningful alone, but even just the sound of her mother’s voice would bring Mara such comfort and strength.
Luckily, word got around that Mara was asking people to return her bear if they happened to come across it or knew where it was at. Even public figures, including Ryan Reynolds, spread the word.
“Vancouver: $5,000 to anyone who returns this bear to Mara. Zero questions asked. I think we all need this bear to come home,” Ryan Reynolds said on Twitter.
Quite some time went by with no luck of finding the lost bear, despite there being surveillance footage that was recovered of a man carrying away bags of Mara’s goods, including a bag which contained her iPad and beloved bear. Tracking down the suspect wouldn’t be an easy task.
Fortunately, two men recently ended up coming forward, who claimed that they took the bear from the thief, and rightfully returned the item to Mara.
Mara may or may not get the rest of her stuff back, but one thing is certain: that bear is irreplaceable, but all or at least most of the other stuff that she lost is. Either way, she’s content knowing that the item she missed the most is now back in her possession.
