Man Was Asked To Take Abandoned Boy For Weekend And Ends Up Adopting Him Permanently

There are so many great foster parents out there. I wish they received just as much respect as biological parents because they truly go out of their way to make a kid’s life just a little bit easier and more stable. It takes a big, selfless heart to take on the role of a foster parent, let alone, to even considering becoming one.

Peter Mutabazi is a great example of a foster parent who deserves recognition. The single man has always had a heavy heart for the foster care system. So, when he received a phone call about temporarily taking in Tony, a boy who was given up by his birth parents, eventually adopted at the age of 4, and then suddenly abandoned in the hospital by his adopted parents at age 11, he was all for helping him out.

Hearing Tony’s story compelled Peter to take the foster kid under his wings without second thought.

“By that time, I was crying,” he admitted. “I thought, ‘Who would do that?'”

Peter had already been a foster parent over the past few years, so he already knew what to expect. But never did he expect that he’d get along with Tony so perfectly.

Seeing that Tony was a very bright and enjoyable kid to be around, the last thing Peter wanted to do was let Tony go. And, to top it off, Peter had everything he needed to raise Tony through adulthood. So, in his eyes, it didn’t make sense for them to say their goodbyes.

“Once I knew the parents’ rights were signed off and he had nowhere to go, I [knew] I had to take him. . . I had the room, the resources, so I had no reason to let him go,” he reiterated.

So, Peter made the decision to officially adopt Tony as of November 2019.

It seems to me that Tony is very happy with the decision to get to permanently refer to Peter as “Dad.”

“From day one, he’s always called me ‘dad.’ He truly meant it and he looks up to me. He’s proud to show me at school and say, ‘Hey, he’s my dad.’ That’s something that I love about him, Peter said.

Now the two can continue living their best lives together. The father and son duo enjoy cycling, playing board games, and watching movies together. Sounds like a blast!
