Icelandic Bubble Hotel Makes For A Great Social Distancing-Friendly Vacation

I’m always up for unique vacation destinations and staying at cool hotels. Sometimes I don’t even care where I’m traveling to; if I know I’ll be staying at a cool hotel, I’m totally down. Who doesn’t love a hotel with a massive bed, maybe a pool with a waterslide, a balcony with a five-star view, or even a buffet-style continental breakfast every morning?! Even for those of you who don’t travel often, I’m sure you get the same level of excitement as I do dreaming about the ultimate vacay.

And if you do, I’m sure you’ll be thrilled to hear about the “bubble” hotel located in South Iceland.

What is this bubble hotel all about, you might ask? It’s a giant, plastic, clear ball containing a big bed, ready for a small group of up to two guests to enjoy.

It’s possibly one of the most peaceful experiences anyone could ever ask for and certainly romantic if that’s the vibe you’re leaning towards. And in a way, it’s kind of like glamping, only that you’re a little more immersed in nature given the see-through “walls” of the bubble. Being transparent, guests get to enjoy the Northern Lights, twinkling stars, and surrounding forest-y scenery. One simply can’t resist the beauty of Iceland!

Robert Robertsson is the owner and director of the Buubble project. He, too, realizes how enchanting of an experience this is.

“Some childhood dreams stay with us for our whole lives. Sleeping under the stars or watching the aurora borealis dance is one of those lifelong dreams,” he said.

A dream is definitely the way to describe this “hotel” stay. When staying in the giant bubble, I can’t help but imagine guests’ everyday worries just melting away. It must be such an amazing thing to encounter.

“Forget the city, forget work, and enjoy watching the aurora borealis dance for you. We can‘t guarantee you will see the lights, but if they show up you will have a magical night,” Robertsson continued.

I think I want to put sleeping in the bubble hotel on my bucket list! Although, I’m a little scared to look at the price. But I think in the long run, the unique experience of staying at this Icelandic hotel, even if it’s just for one night, will greatly outway the costs.

Check out the incredible bubble hotel below. It’s a dream come true!
