Disabled Puppy Who’s Best Friends With Flightless Pigeon Gets A Tiny Wheelchair

As you might recall, an adorable chihuahua puppy named Lundy who can’t walk due to swimmer’s syndrome and a flightless pigeon named Herman with a neurological disorder recently hit the Internet. People from around the world were overjoyed to learn about the two critters and their strong friendship, as were we.

But there’s something you might not yet know. Not long after the unusual pair of pals were introduced to the online world, little Lundy was able to get his own mini wheelchair!

It’s all thanks to an Amherst, New Hampshire-based company, Walkin’ Pets, that provides pet mobility products. Once they saw footage of Lundy and his best friend in an online video, they knew right away that they could offer one of their products to Lundy in particular. He received his own custom-fit wheelchair from the company free of charge!

Before, the only way he could get around is if someone picked him up. Now, the sweet, two-pound puppy is able to get around on his own. With a newfound source of independence, the young chihuahua was put up for adoption the Mia Foundation.

But then on February 28, 2020, the Mia Foundation said the following in a Facebook post:

“Lundy has more good news for Herman. We’ve had thousands of people offer to give Lundy a great home. Some have offered to adopt both Lundy and Herman together. How do you chose out of thousands?

There is obviously something very special with this amazing duo and we have decided to keep them both together right here at the foundation. They will be a part of our school program and teach children about what it’s like to be different. But most importantly, they will remain together!!

Thank you to all that inquired about them. Please stick around though because we get adorable animals every day that will need wonderful homes.

Who knows, maybe even a goat tomorrow.”

Although many are saddened that they will be unable to be the lucky, new owners of Lundy and/or his best friend Herman, many people are happy that they’re right where they belong: together with people who care about them.

“THAT’S FANTASTIC! I’m so glad they will be together and will be staying with you and your marvelous kids. <3 <3 <3,” one Facebooker commented.

Regardless of his home situation, Lundy is so happy to be able to independently walk around with his new wheelchair! Watch below to see his new mobility device.
