Teen Has An Endearing Apology After Hitting Home Owner’s Mailbox During Icy Accident

Getting involved in a fender bender can be pretty embarrassing, am I right? But, really, it’s nothing more than a little mistake, and as humans, we’ll make a lot of them over our lifetime. The best thing we can do in these situations is simply own up to our faults and seek to make things right.

One teen from Lincoln, Nebraska did just that when he mistakenly hit homeowner Crystal Collins’s mailbox with his truck during snowy conditions. Most kids his age would have simply taken off, or if they had the decency, they might leave a note with their contact information on the person’s mailbox or front door. But this particular teen was different as he went above and beyond what Collins ever expected!

According to a Facebook post that went public early morning on January 21, Collins mentioned that the teen had knocked on her door, owned up to his mistake, and even offered every single dollar in his wallet to help pay to replace the broken mailbox. Collins graciously refused the money, asking him to keep him.

But the teen must have been left unsatisfied because three days later, Collins received another knock on the door from him, this time with a plate of cookies as an additional apology. Awe!

“I honestly got teary-eyed, because it was so, it’s just nice to know your kids do good things when you’re not around,” Collins said.

But the Lincoln resident didn’t just take the many apologies and plate of cookies and call it a day. She wanted the approximate 16-year-old’s parents to know about his good deed. It’s not every day a parent of a high schooler can honestly say that their kid is candid and caring like the boy Collins came in contact with.

That said, Collins continued in her post, “I’m looking for his parents. They should know what an outstanding young man they have raised!”

The teenager was later identified as Owen Sullivan shortly after the post went viral 8,500 shares later. That’s when Collins got connected with his family to get the A-ok to have Owen in a feature on the local news. The intent for publicizing his behavior was to not only give him the recognition he deserved but to also set a good example for other people.

Owen is such a sweet and honest kid, and I’m sure his parents are proud! I wish our world was filled with more people like him.
