Although cats are intelligent animals, they’re not immune from troublesome situations. As a cat owner, I know this all too well. I remember a few years ago, one of my cats was trapped overnight in our car. The previous evening, we had the trunk open as we were loading something in the back, not knowing our black feline hopped into the trunk and over to the backseat where he couldn’t be seen. Early the next morning, we discovered him panting with big eyes and viciously pawing at the backseat window trying to escape! Now, we remain cautious so an incident like that doesn’t happen again.
Call the latter scenario negligence if you wish, but some things are out of our control. Kendall Diwisch, a Canadian oil worker, found this to be true earlier this month when he discovered three kittens with their tails frozen to the ground while observing the oil wells in snowy Dayton Valley, Edmonton. Immediately, the man poured his leftover lukewarm coffee on the ice entrapping the kittens’ tails, successfully rescuing them.
Since their wintry rescue, all three kitties are doing great now.
“Took them home, fed and watered them; they look to be healthy and friendly,” he initially said in a Facebook post. “If any friends are looking to have a new addition in their family, let us know as they will need homes. All three look to be males, and we also gave them dewormer.”
The post quickly went viral along with a video he made of him rescuing the cats, which earned hundreds of thousands of views in a short period of time.
Thanks to the viral post and video combination, Diwisch was able to not only find forever homes for each kitten but the same home where they can all three grow up together!
“All three little rascals went to their new home today where they get to be together instead of separating them,” Diwisch wrote in an update. “All three are eating and drinking and very energetic. Thanks for everyone’s consideration and offering to take them; very appreciated.”
Although the cats have a clean bill of health and are generally thriving, it’s scary to think what might have happened to the innocent critters if they weren’t saved. If the blanket of snow didn’t kill them first, their inability to travel to hunt for food or run from predators would have first.
