While weddings used to all look and be the same, nowadays, people take weddings and flip them on their heads. Family members do a flash mob, brides dance down the aisle, and husbands sing to their partners. These type of events will make you cry, entertain you like no other, or make you laugh until you’re crying again.
In the video down below, Maria Holland Tøsse surprises her husband-to-be Ronny Eidsvik while walking down the aisle in Ålesund Church in Norway. What does she do? She sings to him! (But…that’s not all, and we’re going to talk about it in a little bit!) (Maria was actually a contestant in Norway’s’ biggest singing competition, ‘Idol,’ and made it all the way to third place.) Let’s talk about the surprise!
The wedding begins with everyone standing as the bride and her father walk through the doors. The pianist starts playing the classic wedding song as they step through the doorway. However, Maria has her hand behind her back, and a couple of seconds later, you realize, she’s holding a microphone.
The wedding song comes to a stop, and Maria starts singing, “You Raise Me Up,” with the pianist accompanying her. In her stunning dress, she starts strolling down the aisle, and despite the nerves, which she must be feeling for all kinds of reasons, her voice is loud, steady, and strong.
In the front, Ronny stares and smiles. As the performance continues, you can hear Maria’s voice breaking a little bit, and Ronny has to wipe away tears. The entire performance warms your heart.
Once Maria and her father, Charles, reach the middle of the aisle, they stop. Maria continues to sing, and then she pauses, letting the musicians play for a moment.
Then, next thing you know, Charles is holding the microphone and singing! He sings, “You know it’s time, to give away my daughter. You know it’s time, so please take care of her.”
Maria takes the microphone back and sings in reply, “I know he will, he loves me more than ever.” And then, the pair start walking down the aisle again, as she sings, “And now it’s time, to finally say I do.” As she finishes, the choir continue to sings as she steps onto the altar.
Finally, as Maria stands beside Ronny, she sings, “You raise me up to more than I can be,” without a microphone, creating the most perfect ending.
