For many, entering your golden years means not being able to move the way you used to when you were younger—keep in mind that this isn’t the case for EVERYONE. But, someone might find that they aren’t as flexible as they used to be. Some may notice that their sense of balance has deteriorated over the years. Others may suffer from nerve or joint paint that prevents them from moving as much as they’d like.
But for one German-born, Austrian elderly couple, Dietmar and Nellia Horn, they didn’t let their age stop them from continuing to engage in their love of dancing. This is apparent in one gone-viral video that shows them dancing at a gala event in Austria, leaving everyone in the room completely stunned!
Before we get into their dance, it’s important to have some background information. The elderly couple is actually the owner of the Horn Dance School, which was founded over 100 years ago. Both Dietmar and Nellia are expert dancers and have won numerous Austrian and German dance competitions over the years.
In the clip, the couple is dressed to the nines—Dietmar in a mustard yellow suit and Nellia rocks a knee-length, floral dress. They’re looking quite formal yet adorable as they boogie-woogie to “Down the Road Apiece” by Johan Blohm & the Refreshments.
The first thought to come to mind is, “Wow, they really have energy!” But then seven seconds into the video is truly where things take a turn, and it leaves the crowd cheering.
From their twists and twirls to their steps and kicks, every move is a new surprise. The dancers even throw in a “bonus” move every now and then that significantly add to the performance.
One of my personal favorite parts of the dance is when the female dancer slides under the male dancer’s legs. I’m in my early twenties, and not even I can do that!
Then sadly, the dance comes to an end and the couple bows to the cheering audience circled around them. But then the spunky couple join hands once again for one last dance!
In their second dance, I won’t lie, I got a little dizzy watching with all of their spinning. I genuinely wish I had an ounce of their energy!
Toward the end of their second dance, the couple splits, and they each grab a new partner from the audience. The female dancer selects a younger male to be her partner, and even he could barely keep up!
All in all, the original dancers really know how to put on a show. I would certainly be out of breath halfway through the first routine, that’s for sure.
