People have big plans for their wedding days. Couples start planning their special day over a year in advance—everything needs to be considered: venue, guest list, DJ, cocktail hour, food etc. The list goes on and on. The ring and the wedding trousseau are the two most sought-after aspects of getting married; every bride and groom wants to look their best for when they’re taking their vows.
Although all this applies to the majority of couples, there is one couple that didn’t care for any of that: Steve and Shilynne. These two just wanted to get married, period.
Steve and Shilynne have been together for 23 years. But, they never got a chance to get married.
Steve and Shilynne have been together for 23 years, and although you would think that they would’ve been married by now, life always had other plans. According to the duo, whenever they decided that they would tie the knot, something would come up for them and their nuptials would take a backseat. Even though things aren’t looking the brightest for the couple even today, Steve was determined to put a ring on Shilynne’s finger.
Steve recently got admitted to Advent Health’s ICU. He then received devastating news about his health condition.
Steve has been admitted to the ICU at Adventist Health and received traumatic news regarding his condition; there are no further details provided on Steve’s health. Upon getting the bad news, the man felt that he may not have enough time left to fulfill his life-long wish: all he wanted was Shilynne to be his wife. But, when he expressed this wish to the staff at Adventist Health, they knew exactly what to do.
At this moment, his only wish was to marry Shilynne before he runs out of time. So, Adventist Health got to work.
The staff told Dennis Long, Adventist Health’s chaplain about what Steve told them, and it was then that the staff got to work to make this dream come true.
The staff got together and arranged for a marriage license, wedding cake, and two rings. The wedding was set to happen three hours after Steve expressed his wish.
Dennis arranged for a marriage license and began all the other prep. For those who don’t know, the marriage license can take up to five weeks to arrive, but the hospital staff pulled some strings and picked it up within 5 hours of asking for it—remarkable!
The couple exchanged vows in the ICU room.
They even had members of their family attend the beautiful ceremony.
Adventist Health took to Facebook to share their initiative of getting Steve married to the love of his life, and this is what the institution had to say:
The hospital did all they could to make the couple as comfortable as possible; their family was included in the festivities as well. This is a heartwarming tale of an ill man and the love of his life. Adventist Health, kudos for making someone’s wish come true, in the simplest and most touching manner ever!
Don’t forget to share Steve and Shilynne’s story with family and friends, it’s sure to make everyone’s day!
