Anyone of any age can have talent. However, we tend to think that the younger you are, the less talent you may have. The truth is, talent can come to somebody later in life, through heavy practice and experience, or it might simply be there from day one.
For 10-year-old Annie Zimmerman, singing is her natural-born talent. Although quite young to be such a great singer, the first few lyrics that come out of Annie’s mouth prove that her voice is developed enough to be taken seriously.
In fact, for our viewing and hearing pleasure, a video of Annie singing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ in a North Little Rock, Arkansas Walmart store on December 9, 2018, for a “Shop with a Cop” event, was captured by Officer Tommy Norman.
But, before diving into the girl’s shocking rendition, let me give you some background on what “Shop with a Cop” is. This annual event is dedicated to less fortunate children who might not have the luxury of opening presents on Christmas day, such as foster kids. Thanks to generous donations that are collected throughout the year, children associated with “Shop with a Cop” are given $200 each to shop for toys. Each child a part of the program is also told to buy something for somebody else too as a way to encourage the act of giving.
Because there is such a positive message behind this campaign, Annie was honored to be able to sing at the 13th annual event in her community.
Cops and common folk of all ages gathered around the girl who was decked out in blue jeans, an oversized sweater, and a festive reindeer antler headband. With hands on their hearts as she sang the national anthem, everyone in the room was silent but floored from the second they heard Annie’s loud, confident voice.
I was already getting tingles down my spine and goosebumps all over my body from the first lyric! If you close your eyes, her voice doesn’t sound like a 10-year-old’s at all.
At the end of Annie’s performance, she received loud cheers. “Beautiful! Wow,” someone from the audience says. Beautiful is definitely right!
