Maybe you’ve heard people talking all around you or even on social media of how Adam Lambert made Cher cry with his jaw-dropping rendition of her song “Believe.” But, have you heard it yet? If you haven’t, it’s about time that you do because this is one of those performances that will give you goosebumps.
The video, though just posted on December 26th, 2018, doesn’t have 4 million views for no reason. This is one of Adam’s best performances, and you don’t want to miss it!
The reason Adam performed for Cher was that Cher was being recognized at the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors. The Kennedy Center Honors is, “an annual honor given to those in the performing arts for the lifetime contributions to American culture,” according to Google. This year, Cher won among Reba McEntire, the “Hamilton” production, and more.
The video down below begins with Amanda Seyfried introducing Adam before he walks out onto the stage. He begins right away with, “No matter how hard I try, you keep pushing me aside.” Right away he captures the audience’s attention. The song is high, but it’s no problem for Mr. Lambert!
An orchestra plays beautifully behind him, and you feel like you’re right there in the opera house. Adam smiles as the song starts with the second verse. He sings the first chorus in falsetto, but the second time around, he’s belting the notes with what seems like no effort on his part.
At first, when they show Cher, she’s smiling, but as Adam continues to sing the bridge, the entire audience seems impossibly quieter. The bridge goes:
“Well I know that I’ll get through this
‘Cause I know that I am strong
I don’t need you anymore”
Adam gets emotional when he sings that part, and we can all feel it. He sings it softer, yet just as powerfully as the rest of the song, and you’re fully drawn in. When he goes into the final verse again, that’s when Cher starts wiping the tears from her eyes.
The powerful singer then belts out a high note that everyone claps for. By the end, Cher is on her feet, clapping and cheering with a huge smile on her face. She looks so proud.
Give this amazing performance a listen in the video down below! Don’t feel embarrassed if you find that you too are spilling a few tears right along with Cher.
