Susan Boyle Joins Choir To Sing Rendition Of ‘Away In A Manger’

Just about everyone knows Susan Boyle, the UK singer who won “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2009–boy, does she have talent! Even strict Simon Cowell dropped his jaws at the woman’s incredible voice once he heard her for the first time. Now, that says a lot!

Not long after Susan’s major win, she set out to perform at the 2010 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City to sing “Away in a Manger,” one of her hit songs from her Christmas album The Gift. Paired with the middle-aged woman’s powerful voice during the performance was a choir consisting of young children. If you have yet to listen to Susan and the choir’s tear-jerking production, now is the time to do it as the holidays are in full swing!

In the video, all eyes are on center stage. Adorned in silky, white gowns, the young choir starts singing in peaceful, angelic voices with white Christmas trees and poinsettias surrounding them. What a beautiful scene and gorgeous, corresponding voices! Surely, the audience is already getting goosebumps.

After all the children in the choir have had a chance to project their beautiful voices on the stage, Susan, dressed in a warm, black gown that covers her from wrist-to-wrist, ankle-to-ankle, begins her part.

As her beautiful notes fill the Rockefeller stage, the choir in the background provides incredible echoes for the Scottish singer’s voice. If you close your eyes as you listen, you’ll feel immense weight just drop from your shoulders and negative thoughts melt away from your mind.

After the performance, the massive audience roared and clapped like never before. This is one of those performances that should be performed not just once but twice in one night, wouldn’t you agree?

But unlike many artists, Susan’s “Away in a Manger” doesn’t just contain fun, filler lyrics; every word she sings has meaning.

“My faith is incredibly important to me on every level. It gets me through those moments of self-doubt and also allows me to understand that this gift of my career, later in life, is from a higher power,” she says. “Religion is very important to me, and I still attend church services regularly. As a young child, I went with my family to church and sang in the choir. I find that my religion gives me a direction in life and brings great happiness.”

If only more singers would put the amount of passion, emotion, and purpose into their singing career as Susan puts into hers. She really puts everything into her voice.
