YouTube“Little Drummer Boy” is a classic Christmas song that we all listen to during this time of year. It’s been covered by an abundance of people, and each version has a unique spin on it that reminds you of all of the creativity there is in the world.
In the video down below, this song is covered by Christian pop duo KING & COUNTRY. The Australian brothers, Joel and Luke Smallbone, covered this song at one of their concerts in Phoenix.
The live video begins with one of the members, Luke, standing in the middle of the stage with the spotlight on him as he plays the drum. Behind him, the crowd cheers. Then, a guitar joins, and finally, you’ve got the whole band playing together. Suddenly, the lights go out and everyone stops.
When the lights are turned back on, the music starts again, and you can just feel the intensity of the performance. The brothers start to sing the verse; you can tell how much they’re enjoying the routine because Joel is singing with a smile on his face. One sings the melody, and the other sings the higher harmony and a guitar and cello play behind them.
Once again, all of the lights go out, and the brothers sing “When we…” before all the lights come back on and the entire band is playing again, loud and powerful. At some point, you’re a little envious of the people who are there, the people who got to experience this song live.
They do the same thing as earlier, where right before the entire band starts playing again, they strip it down to just the guitar and cello. Then, for the third time, the lights turn off before they turn back on, and they’re back to the whole band performing.
Then, when they begin to sing the next part of the song, a pretty xylophone joins the mix. This duo was not messing around when they arranged this incredible performance. The routine reminds you of something that Imagine Dragons would do. By this time, the brothers are completely lost in the song, and they’re moving around, almost playing on stage.
By the end of the song, the lights are flickering on and off and paper string falls into the crowd. Everyone’s cheering.
One word: Chills.
