It’s a full house at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. In fact, it looks like every seat in the house is taken, and for good reason. It’s a particularly special show headlined by David Foster, Canadian musician, record producer, composer, songwriter, and arranger, who has invited some of his most famous friends to sing his biggest hits.
Only a one-night show, David and friends have put together a star-studded performance, and it’s nothing short of spectacular. His famous friends who have been invited to sing his famous songs include Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Kenny G, Katharine McPhee, Celine Dion, Blake Shelton, Brian McKnight and, of course, Andrea Bocelli.
The video opens to David on the piano with a full orchestra behind him. Andrea is onstage as David says a few words: “I did co-write a piece, along with Carole Bayer Sager, Alberto Testa, and Tony Renis, but it’s been a song that I’ve always been proud to say I’ve been a part of. Please welcome back, singing The Prayer, Katharine McPhee.”
American actress, singer, and songwriter, Katharine was also the runner-up on the fifth season of American Idol. She walks across the stage in a beautiful white satin gown to join the tenor for a stunning duet. Everything about her seems lovely, she looks delighted to be standing beside Mr.Bocelli and holds his hand for the majority of the song. Their voices mesh so seamlessly, bringing the song to life for the audience to fall in love with all over again. It’s a show-stopping version that highlights the purity and beauty of David’s lyrics set to the music.
Furthermore, the pair’s harmonizing is done to perfection, not one set of pipes outsing the other, just sheer brilliance. They really drive home this section of the song, reaching the apex before taking it down a notch and reaching the end. Notice how long Andrea holds the final note. It is for such a duration of time and he doesn’t lose strength. His power resonates. Even Katharine is amazed, looking to the audience as if to say, “Can you believe this man!?” Total shock. It was a performance that had the whole crowd rising to their feet in a standing ovation. It’s pretty hard to top that performance, the pair is simply divine.
