If You Remember The Bristol Stomp Then This Routine Will Surely Have You Up And Moving

There are songs that naturally make you move. It’s that high-energy beat, boogie-woogie rhythm and flow that carries catchy, easy-to-remember words, and before you know it, you’re moving and shaking, dancing up a storm and in a good mood.

Let’s take a little walk down memory lane and go back to the dance floor in 1964. Turn up the volume for this one, and watch out. You might find yourself jumping out of your seat when this song starts to play!

This video is a clip from American Bandstand, the popular music performance and dance television program that aired from 1952-1989. Many bands and singers appeared on the set to perform and get America out of their chairs, dancing. When there weren’t live performances, the show would host a dance party on a Saturday night in the studio.

Tonight, we’re watching a segment where a song from The Dovells has everyone grooving. From Philadelphia, Pensylvania, this band of five members formed in high school, and got their big break with their first hit, “The Bristol Stomp,” that went on to sell over a million copies and reach gold. It was their biggest hit, but that’s not to say they didn’t have other great pieces of music too.

If you’re a fan of “The Bristol Stomp” then surely, “You Can’t Sit Down” should be right up your alley too. Here we have the young and strapping D**k Clark as the host of the show, making a small introduction about the music of the year before segueing into the big reveal. “This first one here is on the lively side. This was the biggest record this group ever made and it continues to be a record of all records. Here are the Dovells.”

And, before you know it, the music chimes in and we are taken to the crowded dance floor filled with people dancing, and shaking to the music on a dusty old, black and white vintage-looking episode of American Bandstand. I have to say, it’s pretty darn catchy and looks like a fun time! We’ve got couples and singles, everyone wearing their finest attire on a Saturday night out, and live on air! The men are in dapper suits and ties and the women have on long skirts and long-sleeved sweaters with bobbed and curled hair ready to be seen. It’s a fun clip to watch and get transported back to a much simpler time.
