Every time I see that an unknown singer is attempting to cover a song by one of my favorite musical artists, I am always a little bit skeptical. Sometimes, a certain song is just perfect for a particular artist and anyone who attempts to recreate it simply can’t stand up to the original. For a new, unknown artist, attempting to cover a famous song can be an incredibly big risk.
However, every once in a while that risk pays off. Someone is able to take a famous song and rework it with their own style, personality, and heart to produce something new that is just as special or even more special than the original. When someone succeeds at this, the result is usually musical magic.
14-year-old Rosie Delmah and her brother Nicholas Murray are known as Rodesha and Conkarah on Youtube. Rosie and Nicholas are from the Solomon Islands, where reggae is a very large part of their lifestyle, culture and musical influence. Conkarah decided to tackle Adele’s “Hello” in a reggae style, with is his sister singing the vocals.
The result is absolutely fantastic. Rosie’s beautiful voice combined with Nicholas’ reggae beats is a stunning blend. It’s a totally new take on this familiar song, and while it’s completely different from the original, it still has the same depth and spirit that Adele brought to the tune, just in a completely different form.
The two musicians are very young, but even at their age, they understand musicality and what it takes to bring a song to life. They know who they are as musicians, and aren’t afraid to be original and genuine in what they do. Instead of trying to imitate the famous song, they take it and infuse themselves into it, giving it a completely new life and an original vibe. This approach is why the song works so well and why millions of viewers can’t get enough of this dynamic duo.
People certainly love their version of this song, but the pair has tackled songs by lots of famous artists, including Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, The Backstreet Boys, Bruno Mars, and Ed Sheeran. They also have their own, original music. With their talent and ability to bring music to life in a unique way, this brother-sister pair is sure to bring more great music to an audience that is eager to hear more from them.
