Animals have complex feelings just like us humans. While we can’t always decipher their barks and moans and don’t always know what’s going on in their canine heads, there are times where their emotions are written all over their faces. You don’t have to know them that well to be able to pick up on what they’re feeling.
As in this case with Cinnamon, a taupe gray pit bull at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control Centre. It was volunteer Sarah Sleime who noticed the downtrodden pup sitting in her cage while walking down the halls.
Sarah was making her rounds when she saw the heartbroken looking pup sitting on her backside, partially straight up. Cinnamon had tears in her eyes, and Sarah knew immediately just how sad the pup was. The volunteer also noticed that Cinnamon had recently given birth, but there were no signs of her puppies. This broke Sarah’s heart. It doesn’t take a detective to see how depressed the poor dog was.
Sarah posted a video of Cinnamon looking sad and lonely on her Facebook page. It wasn’t long before the video picked up speed, quickly reaching over 4.5 million views!
But, Sarah didn’t want to stop there. Kind people from around the world wrote to her, saying they wanted to adopt Cinnamon. After sifting through all the messages and emails, Sarah handpicked Meghan Shelton to adopt Cinnamon and bring her into Meghan’s home. Meghan has three kids and another pitbull, Blu. She had a pretty good feeling that Cinnamon would be a natural fit with the family.
Upon adopting her, Cinnamon’s name was changed to Rosie. She was an instant hit with the family and her new brother. Even though Rosie found her happy ending, there were still a few more hoops she had to jump through before it truly became a dream come true. Shortly after she was adopted, Megan found three growths on Rosie’s body. After going to the vet and undergoing further investigation, the family discovered the growths were in fact tumors.
Without missing a beat, Meghan set up a GoFundMe page and quickly raised over $500 to help with the surgery. “My family loves me and is going to do everything they can to keep me happy and healthy because we all deserve a lot more time together!” Shelton wrote this message on her GoFundMe page.
Since then, she’s recovered fully and is now living a happy life surrounded by people and another dog. She is very loved and has been able to seamlessly adapt to her surroundings and find purpose in her newfound life.
