We all know that pulling off a fabulous wedding involves months of sorting out details. There’s a lot that goes on behind planning a wedding, like choosing the right venue, deciding on the guest list, creating the centerpieces, and deciding whose uncle is the more fun uncle to be the MC. The list just goes on for days! But, even before that, there’s the emotional preparation that comes with starting a new life with someone. And for the bride’s dad, getting it together for this big special day has been in the works for years—ever since she was a little girl.
It takes time and trust to be able to “hand over” your daughter. As a dad, your baby girl is your everything. The wedding day is more than just a new chapter though. It’s also about stepping back for another bond to be forged between her and her new husband, but also for the dad who gains a new son.
The video opens to the bride holding her dad’s hand at the back of the room. They’re about to walk down the aisle together, and dad’s got something a little extra special for her. He wanted to do something big on her big day, and quite honestly, I don’t think anyone is going to ever forget this one. Instead of just walking down the aisle, dad ups the ante and sings to her while he walks her down—it’s one gushy song to sing. It’s Edwin McCain’s “Walk With You,” and it’s perfectly suited for the moment! Dad did his homework, and it certainly paid off!
He’s got everyone in tears and all eyes on them as they make their way to the front. It truly is a slow, sweet walk and dad’s singing is so heartfelt. Even the priest is wiping away his tears. The bride has a few laughs and giggles, but she is clearly moved by her dad’s display of affection. She’s looking at him the whole time while he serenades her. It’s such a lovely gesture to pull off as a surprise.
The groom watches on as dad’s show comes to a close. Dad gives his daughter a hug and kiss as the final send-off, and then reaches over to give the groom a huge hug that ties up the age-old tradition seamlessly! Dad really wowed everyone with this sweet idea that added to the outpouring of love and support for their sacred union.
