The beautiful nine months leading up to birth are possibly some of the beautiful parts of this journey to becoming a parent. It’s this introspective time where mom and baby are one, sharing the same body and creating a mother and child bond that lasts a lifetime. These factors all just add to the love that a mother has for her child, it’s just so unique.
Dutch artist Wendy Buijs van Burg works with pregnant women who want to cherish this moment forever, crystallizing the memory of their unborn child in an exciting and gorgeous-looking way. Do you think it’s impossible to be pregnant forever? Well, Wendy may have changed that notion with her brilliant skills.
Wendy uses plaster to capture pregnancy with mosaic molds that last forever! First, she uses strips of plaster on her client’s bare belly to retain the size and shape. Next, depending on the design, she’ll cut out pieces of glass, then fit and adhere them to the dried mold, creating a dynamic mosaic pattern. Based on the client’s preferences, she’ll plot out where the name goes and then use Swarovski crystals to emblazon the piece and create a finished work of art that sparkles and shines.
Having gone through some health problems herself, Wendy started her business after surviving cancer. She realized what was important and decided to take a risk by following her heart. After getting through her traumatic ordeal, she hopes to inspire others to take a chance as she did.
