In the 21st century, weddings are no longer traditional in all aspects. Brides are choosing blush dresses, grooms are opting for blue or green tuxedos, couples are writing their own vows, and some weddings even have ice cream or cupcakes instead of a white, three-tiered cake. Most weddings still have traditional touches to them, but they are still rapidly changing in a direction based on what the bride and groom personally want.
Here’s a story to show you just how modern and personal weddings are these days. One newly-wed couple chose a unique song for their first dance as husband and wife: “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi. But, instead of it being awkward for both the couple and guests, it actually was a beautiful performance.
The beginning of their dance is quite remarkable. The blushing bride comes out of a mysterious cloud of smoke with a high-low, white wedding dress, barefoot and all. Then the husband also appears barefoot but in beige pants and a blue button-up.
As the song begins, the couple starts off with a choreographed dance under romantic, stringed lighting and colored strobe lights appearing to be in the background.
At first, I could feel a bit of tension the couple may have felt. I would have felt the same, especially dancing in front of over 50 folks! However, as the dance progressed, the two got more and more confident. They soon had wide smiles on their faces. At times, the two would even sing along. They seemed to be having the time of their lives!
Peering at the clapping audience throughout the dance, they seemed to love what they were watching. Some members of the audience were dancing, singing, or waving their hands in the air. Then at the end of the performance, the wedding guests gave the couple a big round of applause!
I think while unique, the dance was wonderful! Some may call the song choice or choreography cheesy, but in the end, the couple and guests had a blast. From the choreography to the lighting, to the outfits worn by the newly-weds, everything was well-fitting.
Most of all, I enjoyed that the dance was s**y and romantic, yet it still had mostly fun, family-friendly elements to it. While most first dances have some people in the audience bawling, I liked that this one was more lively and fun. It was something for everyone of all ages to enjoy.
