Talented 12-Year-Old Boy Tells Ellen About His Passions For Music And Makeup

Passion and drive, with a sprinkle of ambition, are what get you places in this life. Even if you don’t have a clear cut path, it’s the love that fills your heart when you do something that makes you happy, that helps steer you in the right direction. And the more you love it, the more you do it. And the more you do it, the better you get at it. And the better you get at it, the more you get noticed. And the more you get noticed, Ellen DeGeneres will find you and bring you on to her show to get you noticed even more!

Reuben de Maid from Cardiff, UK, is 12-years-old and he just appeared on “Little Big Shots” and, now, the “Ellen Show.” This kid’s got two passions in life and he ain’t afraid to sparkle!

His first passion is singing. When Ellen asks him how long he’s been singing, he says, “Since I could talk. I always begged my mom for a karaoke machine. And then one day she bought it and my sister and brother were so frustrated. They’d listen to it 24/7, blasting.” Reuben has some serious pipes and opens the show with his version of Jennifer Hudson’s “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.” He’s a mini version of Jennifer, blasting through her lyrics and slamming those high notes with ease. He’s powerful. He sounds well-rehearsed, and like he’s worked very hard on perfecting his craft! What a voice!

Reuben’s second passion is makeup. He does all of his own looks and likes to do his sister’s. “I’d love to be on stage, but I’d like to have my own make-up brand and to have a YouTube channel, with my sister, and do makeup tutorials.” While his dream sounds pretty attainable, the boy has gone through lots of bullying for just being himself. He’s been harassed and abused because he wears makeup to school. “In my drama group, I used to get hit, punched and kicked. And then went on for two months, and then after two months I try to brush it off but brushing it off doesn’t work. So I stood up to them and I told my mom.”

Ellen immediately shares in the boy’s pain, praising him for being who he is and who he wants to be and grow up into. It’s almost as if the well-loved host is truly a real-life genie because this little boy’s wish is about to be her command.
