In our younger years, we tend to take for granted seeing our family every day. But once we leave the nest, that’s when seeing one another becomes more special, although sometimes scarce.
That’s why one man by the name of Michael decided to come down from his home in Florida to surprise his mother for her birthday, after not seeing her for five years. The way Michael surprises his mother, Gloria, is absolutely hilarious – and it drags on for a good four minutes before she even realizes it’s him!
Mike the “waiter” begins by taking his mother’s order, who is the only one at the table unaware of his surprise visit. But, the catch is, Mike isn’t talking in his normal voice. He informs his mother about their $16.95 special: “It comes with soup and pasta.” “I’ll have that,” mom decides. I’m already cracking up at this point and so is the rest of the table!
Then, when Mike the waiter informs the group about the senior discount, his mom chuckles and appears to look back at her son, only to not even realize that it’s him. A boy at the table says, “Oh my gosh!” in response to Gloria not catching on. Mike then throws in a big hint directed towards his mother, that the senior discount starts at 75-years-old; the family gathered to have dinner on this day because Gloria turns 75.
Mike gets even more specific with the hints, mentioning the table that he has to catch a plane that night to go back home to Florida. One of the family members throws in, “My brother lives there!” It turns out, “both” live in the Ashley Park area, so the family member asked, “Maybe you know him,” mentioning that her brother’s name is Michael Zapin.
After more conversion, laughter from the table, and an oblivious mother still looking over the menu yet still glancing over at her son who she does not recognize, Mike mentions that his name is Michael Zapin. Gloria STILL does not get the hint and just continues to smile. Mom, piece it together: his name is Michael Zapin, and he’s from the Ashley Park area in Florida!
“What an amazing coincidence!” says Mike’s dad. Yet, Gloria still chuckles. She even glances over a few more brief times until her family members tell her to look at the waiter. She does a double take and finally realizes that it’s her son. What a great (and hilarious) birthday surprise!
