It’s hard to imagine that any furry friend could find themselves in such a dire situation. As lovers of animals and pets, it’s heartbreaking to think that any animal could go through such hardship, live in deplorable conditions and be treated so poorly by neglectful owners. While some dogs have a good, happy healthy life with a family that loves them and takes them on walks, and gives them dog baths and feeds them treats, others haven’t been given the same opportunity.
And then there are those lucky few who may not have had such a good start but are given a second chance, a break that sets their life on a completely different course, for the better. Every rescue dog has a story, and it’s usually one that pulls at the rescuer’s heartstrings. Each tale is harrowing but usually, the question remains the same. At the end of the day, after an emotional rescue comes out successful, who really saved who?
This story shows the immense gratitude they have for each other. The rescuer and dog both feel equally grateful for the current situation they’ve found themselves in. As seen in the video, the rescuer swooped in when she noticed dogs that had been left on the side of the street for days without food, water or shelter, left to die in the sweltering heat, some in 100+ degrees. She saw with her own two eyes, dogs who were shackled to two-foot chains, barely able to move. She waited to see if anyone came for these pups, saying “… I couldn’t sleep at night, so I saved them…”
One of the poor pups, while in the car, really touched her heart, and once you see it, you’ll know exactly what I mean. Driving home, the sad but hopeful looking doggo is sitting in the passenger seat. His head is lowered and he looks somber. The rescuer is driving but has her camera set up to get the pup’s reaction. Seconds later, she’s crying as the doggy looks down and nuzzles in closer, his paw lifted up over her arm. It’s almost as if he’s crying along with her. She continues to cry and say, “It’s ok…” as the pup uses his paw to touch her, signaling his gratitude.
It’s such a tender and vulnerable moment. This pooch has been through so much and just wants somebody to love him. His puppy eyes are so big and sad, but they aren’t filled with pain. It looks more like gratitude and the realization that he’s left all of the pain behind. His tail starts to wag, and it looks like he’s on his way to his forever home – I think he’s got a good one! His rescuer couldn’t be more thrilled to take him home, saying, “It broke my heart that he’d been neglected and was dying and wasn’t mad at me but grateful. I started to cry and again, his focus shifted from himself to now my needs. I couldn’t believe so much love came from an animal that literally just came from a situation like he was in.”
