Aladdin is a classic Disney movie that everyone loves, and the famous song “A Whole New World” is one that makes us feel like happy, worry-free children.
In the video down below, Jared Young, a man who grew up dreaming of playing Aladdin, gets to go back to that childhood memory. However, he didn’t get to relive those memories just by listening to the song because he got to sing it. It’s not only the fact that he sang the song that’s special — there’s more to it! He got to sing with the original Jasmine! Lea Salonga, the voice of Princess Jasmine, was performing at De Jong Concert hall when she announced that she’d be singing “A Whole New World.”
She surprised the audience by choosing a random member to sing with her, taking the role of Aladdin. Jared was that lucky member. The man shared, “I dreamt for 20 years of playing Aladdin (also for many years dreamed of performing alongside Lea Salonga) and couldn’t believe my dream was coming true! It was a perfect night.”
Now, let’s talk about the video.
So, the music begins, and Jared stands on the stage next to Lea. He looks nervous, but he gazes at the audience and laughs in disbelief to calm the nerves. Then, with Lea’s cue, Jared begins to sing, and right away you can hear his deep rich tone. He sings the first verse while looking at Lea the entire time, but as his confidence grows he faces the crowd.
When he gets to the chorus —”A whole new world, a new fantastic point of view” — the audience screams! Even Lea wears a smile on her face!
You can hear Jared’s voice get stronger, and he sounds incredible! Then, it’s Lea’s turn. Jared’s reaction is amazing as he laughs in disbelief while the audience cheers. His smile only continues to grow as the song progresses.
Lea’s high notes are flawless. Eventually, it’s time for them to harmonize. They sing together, and their voices blend perfectly. You can tell that Jared knows the song by heart as he sings in perfect low harmonies.
The song comes to an end and the audience cheers and claps for the pair, who shares a hug. Lea admits that Jared is a brilliant singer and that it was great performing with someone who could actually sing.
