Having your heart broken is such a deep trauma to go through. It’s happened to me more than I care to count, and it never gets easier. And while the first cut is the deepest, it’s still the same old painful routine every time. Isolation, lack of appetite, zapped energy, no desire to do anything, go anywhere, see anyone —just a total breakdown. And lots of ice cream and chocolate.
It sucks. Love hurts. A period of heartbreak takes deep introspection and understanding oneself during this difficult time. The only way out is through the pain, and there’s no shortcut. You have to remain strong and just hope that something will pull through and that everything will sort itself out. Everything is okay in the end, and if it’s not okay, then it’s not the end.
This poor goat was going through a really rough time. His name is Mr. G, and he was rescued from a hoarder’s house in southern California. He had been there for 10 years, neglected, mistreated, and unloved. But he made a friend with a burro (a donkey used as a pack animal), named Jellybean, who he became rather attached to. Through the turmoil and uncertainty, they at least had each other.
But when the animals were rescued, another sanctuary took Jellybean away, and the rescuers who took in Mr. G had no idea that they had become such close friends. From the moment Mr. G was brought in to his sanctuary, separated from Jellybean, the goat became withdrawn, staying in the corner of his stall and not moving. He refused to eat for six days, remaining still and extremely depressed.
The animal welfare group, Animal Place, knew they had to do something about this sad situation. They couldn’t just watch Mr. G waste away. It was when a volunteer, Jeff McCracken, offered to drive the 14-hour round trip to go fetch and bring back Jellybean, they knew they could maybe bring the heartbroken goat out of his misery.
When Jeff returned with the donkey, Mr. G knew something was different. This video captures the surprise and sheer delight of a once-downtrodden goat suddenly uplifted and elated to be reunited with his old friend. It’s such a joyous moment, and sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face! I’m so happy Mr. G and Jellybean got to be reunited, especially after what they’ve been through. Even in the worst of circumstances, they always had each other. And now they can be happy and together in much better circumstances!
