Teen Girl’s Version Of Andrea Bocelli Classic Leaves Judges In Tears

As a teen, I didn’t have much appreciation for classical music. I was more into pop and rock and anything that I could dance to, or could listen to on the radio. (Isn’t that all of us at that age, though?) I associated classical, slow-moving music to something my parents would listen to! Nothing that as a youth, I would have anything to gain from. How wrong I was! This genre is so moving and packed with emotion and beauty. It stems from someone’s heartbreak, a universal concept that we can all relate to and understand.

And if there’s someone who understands this idea, it’s this teen — this girl gets it. Originally from Kiev, Ukraine, Solomia Lukyanets appears on “The Voice Kids Germany” blind auditions to show the world how passionate and talented she is.

Solomia appears on the stage. She is so young, with her curly hair in two low pigtails. Her face is bright and youthful, wearing braces and a bold floral shirt. She is only 13-years old, yet carries herself like an adult. And her voice? Well, it’s a little bit mind-boggling.

The judges’ backs are towards her. Andrea Bocelli’s “Time To Say Goodbye” starts to play and the one judge, Lena, puts her hand to her heart as if to say how close this song is to her. She’s got a big smile on her face, eager to see what this contestant has in store. Another judge says, “Whaaaat!” as though he is already impressed by her song selection. No one chooses this song if they don’t think they can really bring something to the table!

Solomia wins over Lena in a matter of seconds, her Italian and pitch, spot on. The other judges quickly follow suit, and they are brought to tears. Solomia is a young, female Andrea Bocelli, and she’s got excellent control of the song and her vocal range. She’s got this ballad down pat, exuding confidence and certainty that she’s taking home first place. Approaching the end, Solomia kicks it up a notch, her voice reaching a very high octave that has all three judges in a state of awe. One is standing on the chair, another is crouched and crying, and the last one has his arms wide open, in disbelief.
