Steve Irwin Sits In A Tree With Momma Orangutan And Her Baby

Steve Irwin, the famous Crocodile Hunter (may he rest in peace), will always be a legend. Even though he’s been gone 12 years, his spirit remains, and no one could ever forget how incredible he was with animals.

The video down below is about Steve having an emotional encounter with a momma orangutan. It’s a video you don’t want to miss because it’s such a beautiful thing to watch. He was in the forest of Sumatra in Indonesia, and it was the year 1997 when he had this experience.

The video begins with Momma Orangutan swinging down a branch toward where Steve is sitting. The narrator says that the animal “has such trust in humans that she’s bringing her baby right down to Steve, even though he’s a total stranger.”

While the chimp looks calm as her baby literally hangs around her, Steve is cautious because mother orangutans can be really protective of their children. He has his back tilted back just in case the orangutan were to become aggressive. Steve can’t believe that the mother is as close as she is. He even admits that he’s intimidated (unlike her) because he’s not sure what she’s up to!

Momma Orangutan gets really comfortable around Steve, though. Her leg rests on his arm, and surprisingly, she’s trying to bring her baby, April, closer to him — April’s too shy! The baby throws a small tantrum, just as any human toddler would. Since her mom is trying to bring her forward against her wishes, she bites mom’s hand, who in turn ignores the tantrum, and looks at Steve.

Steve continues to smile at the thought of how close the orangutans are to him. He then rubs his head against Momma Orangutan’s arm!

As he cuddles up to her, he stares with shocked eyes and says, “What can I say? I think I’m in love. I’ve fallen in love with another woman!” As the video comes to an end, Momma Orangutan is completely cuddled up to Steve’s side, and even rests her head on his!

Steve shared with passion, “I’ve had some wildlife encounters in my life, but the emotions that I felt in my heart, I was nearly crying. To get this close and be loved on by the beautiful… mommy orang[utan] was such a touching experience. One that I’ll take with me for the rest of my life.”
