Buskers usually perform at tourist places and subway stations, and sadly there are times that they get ignored. However, it was difficult not to stop and listen to the woman in the video down below. With 15,000,000 views and rising, subway performer Ashley Stevenson covered Fleetwood Mac’s iconic song “Landslide,” and it took our breath away.
In Chicago, Illinois, the man who recorded the video on his way home said, “One of the best performances I have ever seen.” He also said that Ashley stunned the crowd, “Which erupted into applause as the train arrives.”
The woman starts by playing her guitar, and not even a second later, you can see the positive response to her talent. A woman is walking up to her to drop some money in the green bin. Even Ashley’s guitar skills are incredible!
Her powerful voice fills the room, and you can hear her originality in the famous line from the song: “Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?” You can automatically tell that her rendition is unique and more upbeat.
As she continues to sing, you get to realize further on that her version is also a bit more punchy and staccato-ish. Her big voice echoes through the subway station. After another 50 seconds, another woman walks by to drop off some money in the bin.
When Ashley gets to the chorus (beginning at “Well, I’ve been afraid of changing ‘cause I built my life around you”), she still honors the original version but manages to make little changes in her singing that make the tune her own.
The biggest difference in the chorus is the style and beat she holds with the guitar. It contradicts the ballad-like singing, but this busker still manages to have it make sense.
“Landslide,” like I said, is a classic song, and it’s no wonder people actually stopped to listen to this unique and gorgeous version.
From around 2 minutes until the end of the video, she stops singing and ends the performance by just playing the guitar. Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about it, and I can’t really explain what she does, but I truthfully say, it’s jaw-dropping, and you don’t want to miss hearing it.
One comment reads, “Wow what an effortless voice. So smooth and creative with that rendition. And rocking a 12-string! Someone sign her up to meet talent scouts!”
