When you hear the terms “retired,” and “68-years-old” coming from a woman dressed as a grandmother, it’s easy to assume that she’s exactly that. There’s no guessing – that’s what she is. What you see is what you get! Or is it? I haven’t been much of a believer in that phrase, because what’s on the outside doesn’t tell you what’s on the inside. I also believe in never judging a book by its cover. These reasons are why I had a feeling there would be more to this contestant than what meets the eye.
Jenny Darren appears before the “Britain’s Got Talent” judges looking exactly the way she called it. The judges accepted her for who she is, but are eager to see if she had anything rolled up her knitted cardigan sleeve. They figured that there would be something unique about her, that’s why she’s on the show. But, what could it be? And boy, did she make it a point to show them what she’s got!
Once the judges gave her the go-ahead, this soft-spoken, big-smiled woman started to undress on stage. She tears off her sweater, undoes her hair, throws off her glasses and crawls out of her skirt to reveal what she’s wearing underneath. Like a snake that’s shed its skin, Jenny is now decked out in head-to-toe black leather, and looks like a rock star! Since she’s dressed like one, it only makes sense that she performs like one – Jenny didn’t delay her act anymore and got right into it!
Of course, she chooses an AC/DC “Highway to H**l” to really shake up the audience and take them for a ride. As if the whole room wasn’t already flabbergasted when Jenny took off her clothes to show off her hidden rocker outfit underneath, once this leading lady opened her mouth to sing, she had everyone’s attention.
Between her vocal distortion, the roughness and raspiness of her voice and the way she nails every single note all while raising a little h**l, Jenny is a legend and crushes this song. And that last note? Total rock shock.
There have been many rock show performances on the show thus far, but I think this one has to be one of the best ones I’ve ever seen! What are your thoughts?
