National Health Department Issues Recall On USB Chargers Due To Risk Of Shock And Fire

It’s a safe bet to assume almost everyone in the world has a cellphone. “Everyone” even includes children of the newer generation. It’s imperative for even them to have a phone or some mobile device, so they can participate in school activities available through applications, stay connected with their friends, and most importantly, check in with parents to let them know that they’re safe coming home from school, a friend’s place, etc.

However, if we talk about “safety,” then it’s important to mention that although having a phone is a good call in today’s time and day, but it’s even more essential to have the right charger. If you find yourself buying counterfeit chargers, then you may be in for a bit of shock — these fake USB chargers are a proven risk and a fire shock hazard

Health Canada has issued a recall on numerous USB chargers that aren’t authentic and pose this risk. These are known as “uncertified USB chargers” and can give people an electric shock, or even start a fire. The chargers are sold at various retail stores around the country.

But, it’s not just Canada that has experienced this problem with counterfeit or “fake” chargers; the issue is universal. A report on ABC 15 ARIZONA, from 2017, shows just how much of a problem these instruments have become in America as well.

The report gives a woman’s first-hand experience with a fake charger that began emitting sparks while it was plugged into the wall outlet.

According to this report, Apple has commented on the problem and says that these chargers, often sold outside of their knowledge by vendors known as “genuine sellers” on third-party sites, are indeed dangerous. By using them, consumers run the risk of an electric shock, a fire, or the unit overheating. This debate between private sellers and Apple goes back to 2016 when BBC reported that Apple had openly accused Amazon US of selling counterfeit Apple products, in which power devices was one of them.

Industry professionals encourage consumers to ensure that you’re always using charging units that come with your devices. This best practice will decrease chances of hazards and ensure the safe usage of a technological device that is so important in everyone’s daily lives.
