8 Championship Clog Dancers Show Off Their Moves

Nothing like a little feel-good music and dancing to brighten up your day. And with clogs! Originally from Europe, clog dancing emerged in the Appalachians when the Irish, Scottish, English and Dutch-Germans settled in the area in the 1700s. With them came a foot-tapping style of dance, and the shoes known as “clogs.” The term “clog” is from the Gaelic word “time” and is a dance that is done in sync with the music; the dancers keep time as they dance to the rhythm and beat.

The type of dance grew, and many other nationalities and cultures including Africans, Cherokee, and Russians, added their spin to create a multi-cultural melting pot of dance. Today, it is still strong, and the energy high and now, competitive! This incredible video is brought to us through the Clogging Champions of America (CCA) and the talent required to compete is inspiring!

Through sportsmanship, fun, and teamwork, this opportunity is for amateurs to come together, and knock the socks off the audience and judges! This solid group of eight who is better known as Tap This! from Lincoln, Nebraska, chose “Honey, I’m Good” by Andy Grammar, an action-packed song to kick their heels to.

It’s a routine of classic clogging straight from the country. This crew has got it down pat, staying true to the roots of the music. Even their denim outfits fit the bill! Simple, happy, and with on-point technique, Tap This! is tapping its way to the top! I’m not a professional clogger (I’ve never even given much thought to the dance. The only clogs I know of have only ever been used as planters…), but it appears to me that these guys are tight in their performance. They aren’t out of sync, their timing is impeccable, and their smiles couldn’t be bigger! It looks like a lot of practice and teamwork was needed to pull this one off!
