Man Makes His Own Lock At Home Using A Fork

This is a pretty clever hack if you’ve got a few supplies hanging around and a few minutes to spare. You can keep this “lock” in your car or your purse, and it’s ready to go whenever you need or wherever you need one! You can use it for extra security in your motel room, try it in a public washroom, or use it at home on an interior or exterior door.

Phil Crockett has a few DIY hacks up his sleeve, however, this one is by far his most popular. I’m not really sure what inspired this or how he thought he could put this together, but he did, and the result is nifty! Simply start with a dinner fork. One that has long tines, and a wide handle that tapers from the bottom to the neck of the fork.

Next, you need a vice and a saw, but once you use these, you’ve got yourself the finished result to carry with you wherever you go. All you have to do is mark the depth of the latch hole on the fork, place the fork in the vice and then bend the fork to 90 degrees with the hammer. Next, saw off the handle to form two pieces and now you have your homemade lock ready to go.
