Adorable Animated Spider Escapes From Under Glass

If the thought of a creepy crawly spider sends chills down your spine and makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up, you’re not alone. People just don’t like spiders! It could be a combination of their legginess, unpredictable moves, speediness, hairiness…ok, I’ll stop freaking you out. You get the idea.

But what if there was such a thing as – gasp! – a cute spider? Yes, I did just use those two words in the same sentence, and yes, I promise, there is such a thing. He even “boops.”

Professional animator Joshua Slice has worked on big-ticket productions like “Big Hero 6,” “Zootopia,” and other cartoon features. He first came up with the idea for Lucas when he saw a meme of a tiny jumping spider in a leaf. The image was cute, but Joshua wanted to challenge himself to make something even cuter. He became enthralled with how much people hated spiders and wondered if he could somehow create a one that people liked.

Using his nephew’s voice, and spending countless hours doing the design, modeling, rigging, lighting, rendering and everything you need to do to make something out of nothing, Lucas the Spider came to life. And the feedback has been through the roof.

Catch Lucas in “Captured” – where he finds himself trapped underneath a wine glass. He’s a smart little spider and figures a way to get out. His quick exit is adorable, and has the Internet lobbying for this is teeny, fuzzy, baby spider to get his own full-length feature film. Judging by the tens of millions of views he’s getting, people are clearly oblivious to the fact that they’re falling in love with – eek! – an arachnid!
