A Different Kind Of Student Showed Up For Class 10 Years Ago – He Still Comes Every Day

It’s every child’s dream to be able to bring their beloved pet to the classroom. Imagine how everyone’s mood would be a little more lifted with an adorable, furry friend hanging around during the school day! For the past decade, one school has figured out the perks of having just that – a pet in the classroom, and everyone loves it!

Simba, the 15-year-old orange tabby, has been making his way into Westbrook High School, in Madison, Wisconsin, and into the hearts of its student body and faculty, every day for over ten years! Simba strolled in one day years ago and has been faithfully coming back every day since.

Simba and his owner live very close to the school, so it’s not too difficult for the cat to wander over. Tina Soucy, a newly employed teacher at the time, was the first one to open the door and let him in, starting a routine that no one had any idea would last for so long!

And nobody wants it to stop. Simba has been very well-received (he is also closely monitored, so he doesn’t get lost inside the school or get too close to any students with allergies) with many people singing his praises and saying it just wouldn’t be the same without him.

With over 800 students in the school, it’s strange that a little kitty like him would find such peace amongst the shuffle of all the people and the loud bells. However, he’s found a second home (his owner is well aware of Simba’s double life) and has made friends with everyone. He’s definitely in it for the love, extra attention, and cuddles!

What’s more, it seems like the superintendent and administrators are open-minded about having Simba around. They agree that the school system could do with a change that allows for alternative ways of learning and therapy regarding the presence of animals to help facilitate a more nurturing and educational environment.
