Inmates Break Out Of Cell To Save Prison Guard’s Life

Gary Grimm, a prison guard in Texas, was at the center of a jailbreak, but it probably isn’t at all what you think. In your head, you probably picture inmates escaping and possibly using violence. There might be weapons, b***d, and chaos, even a riot.

But, this isn’t even close to what happened in this situation. Gary was working a shift at a Texas courthouse and was monitoring inmates in the holding cell. He was the only guard in the room, and there were eight men in a locked cell across from him.

Suddenly, Gary collapsed from a massive heart attack. The men, who were no longer under the supervision of a guard, worked together to break out of the holding cell. But, they had no intention of stealing the guard’s weapon or trying to escape. They only wanted to help the man who was obviously having a life-threatening medical emergency.

Gary was surprised and touched by the men’s actions. “Instead of overtaking me and taking my gun and killing me, or taking somebody hostage or whatever and escaping, they looked at me as a human being,” he said to USA Today.

The sound of the men breaking out of their cell made enough commotion to call attention to the situation and other guards and staff soon appeared. Gary’s heart had to be shocked twice to bring him back to life, and he was taken to the hospital. He didn’t get a chance to thank the men in that cell for saving his life that day.

But, in the video below, Gary shares what happened, and how grateful he is for what the inmates did. Watch his emotional story below.
