There will always be that one classic that people can’t stop listening to, regardless of how many times they’ve heard it over the past few decades. No matter how many versions, remixes, or covers get released, the original will always be best. Isn’t that how it goes most of the time?
Many, even the millennial generation, would agree that Queen’s 1977 song, “We are the Champions,” is a prime example of an older tune that simply gets better with time, kind of like a good wine. From the guitar chords to Freddie Mercury’s angelic yet powerful voice, one cannot deny that this Queen hit is forever.
One viral video reaching over 22 million views presented a vocal-only version of the Queen tune, reminding us how stunning Mercury’s vocal range was. Throughout the video, the old footage appears of Mercury, in a way like a tribute to remember this amazing man.
Just from hearing the first verse, we get an immediate feeling of aural satisfaction. As the video progresses, one can’t help but to notice the perfect flow of elevation and depression in Mercury’s flawless singing voice, transitions that are so smooth and beautiful.
Now we can honestly say that sometimes a different “version” of a classic song can be just as good if not better than the original, as in this acapella version. It’s pretty impressive that a song without music can be so enjoyable with just the vocals alone.
We will continue to miss the ever-so-talented Freddie Mercury who passed away decades way too soon. For now, we’ll reminisce his exceptional skills through music.
Enjoy Freddie Mercury’s flawless singing in “We are the Champions” in the video below. Do you personally prefer the original with instrumentals or the acapella version of the song?
