Through the mindful practice of breath control, basic meditation and the use of varying body postures, yoga is a full mind, body and soul experience. It is through the pillars of balance, strength, and flexibility that one improves their yogic practice.
And it’s not easy. It takes devotion and commitment and forgiveness to work your way through and improve. If it takes humans a set amount of time to delve deeper, imagine what it’s like for dogs to take on yoga!
This is an amazing video of a 17-year-old Australian girl named Mary and her 3-year-old Australian Shepherd, Secret. In what Mary has aptly named “doga,” we get to see a brand new doga position that clearly took some practice and a lot of training behind the scenes.
Mary is on her back, legs extended, and Secret leaps up to balance on her feet. This is an acrobatic yoga move where Mary is the base and Secret is the flyer – both having to trust each other completely or suffer the consequences of getting a paw in the eye or an accidental punch in the snout!
Just when you think it’s impressive enough, Mary and Secret go the extra mile and even hold a balanced position for a few moments. Secret does an excellent job of maintaining her pose and finishes beautifully. These two have such a great bond and pull off an advanced move that’s difficult even for humans, never mind having a dog involved!
