For a little piece of what might actually be heaven on earth, this sensational feast for the eyes and ears is sensory overload – and in a great way.

In the historic district of Montreal, stands the gothic revival style Notre-Dame Basilica, initially built in 1672. It is known for its highly decorated interior, making it an “emblematic and patrimonial building, attracting tourists who visit the metropolis.” Inside, the vaults are vividly colored in deep blues (a rare and royal color in those days) and punctuated with stars of gold and some silver.

Other parts of the interior highlight stunning colors that include azures, cerulean, reds, and turquoises. The actual space of the church is filled to the top with ornate wooden carvings and multiple religious statues. Plus there’s a huge organ that comprises four keyboards, and is loaded with has several thousand pipes. It’s all pretty grand, to begin with, so imagine what happens when you add a decked out light show to make something already divine into something divinely magnificent.

To celebrate Montreal’s 375th anniversary, the Notre-Dame Basilica is presenting a fully immersive, sensory overload unique luminous experience, in partnership with Moment Factory, the designers behind this incredible spectacle of light and color. In this visually arresting three-part show named Aura, the majestic interior is further embellished by projections, light, and music to put on an unforgettable church experience that is unlike any Sunday service.
